We have received several questions regarding the shaving and hair removal for the black man. Here is what we suggest. The hair on many black men seems to be dry, coarse and very curly. The hairs also seem to sit very close to the skin. These factors contribute to one of the most annoying problems in hair removal - ingrown hairs, bumps and chafing.

After careful review of similar hair removal products there is one product that we highly recommend. This complete system includes two tools that provide the user with a very close shave and causes the least amount of ingrowns and skin irritation. The first tool -the trimmer - a dry shaver- carefully lifts the hairs (without pulling) and gently trims close to the skin. The second tool - the finisher - smooths away the stubble. This works especially well for black men because it works well to pick up the curly hair.

Ingrown hairs tend be more problematic for the black man because razors pull the hair too high above the skin and then after the razor cuts, the tip of the follicle curls back beneath the skin causing ingrowns. The razor can also be rough and damaging to the top layer of skin. The EZ-HairRemoval system, mentioned above, is more gentle on the skin and still provides a superior smoothness.

It is crucial for anyone with dry skin and curly hair to use a high quality moisturizer. It is important to moisturize daily, BUT not within a few hours of using this shaving system. This system is to be used on dry skin, so if there is newly laid lotion the tolls will clog up. Before this hair removal process, it is wise to soften the hair with a shower or warm washcloth. After shaving it is recommended to wash thoroughly and moisturize.

For more info about this removal system - www.EZ-HairRemoval.com

Laser hair removal is not always permanent and the effectiveness of laser hair removal depends on many factors.

This question was recently posed to us - "What is your opinion about Laser Hair Removal and would you be hesitant about going to a place like "Ideal Image"? I had a consultation and was wanting to get my back chest and abdomen done. It is much pricier than I thought. Is it truly permanent?"

Laser hair removal is not always permanent and the effectiveness of laser hair removal depends on many factors. These factors include skin pigment, skin type and hair type (thickness & density). Laser often takes several sessions in order to remove all the hair folicles in the area.

Hair folicles cycle every three to six weeks. So, it may take several times before all the hair is removed in any given area. I have known some that have required 5-10 treatments to secure smoothness. This can become extremely pricey. We feel the word permanent is also often misused. For many, permanent may be 5-10 years and for some it is only a couple of years before you must repeat the process.

If you have the time, money and patience this laser may be an option for you. Realistically, for many laser is not feasible or economical. If you were only doing one small area it might be worth it, but for three large areas as mentioned - back, abdomen and chest hair removal, it would not be my method of choice.

~Chris

p.s. - Don't forget that using a hair growth inhibitor is a great way to get better results with any hair removal system. The product I personally use and recommend is Kalo.

We have received many questions about the differences between the EZ-Hair Removal System & Kit and the Norelco Body Groomer. (...)

We have received many questions about the differences between the EZ-Hair Removal System & Kit and the Norelco Body Groomer. Well, we have done our research and this is what we found. The Bodygroomer is a nice piece of equipment. Upon openning this tool you will find mostly just the tool. It is a fine tool that removes much of the hair needed. It does have different levels of trimming which is useful for some men that simpy want to trim hair.

We found that after testing the Bodygroomer we felt even more strongly about the EZ-Hair Removal System. This kit provides all the necessary tools and accessories to aid in all your manscaping needs and achieve wonderfully smooth skin anywhere - for men or women. The kit includes a trimmer, finisher, cleaning brush, hair removal talc powder and apllication brush, convenient storage box and fun sexy stencils. This kit was created especially for manscaping; trimming and removing hair from all parts of the body - mostly sensitive areas.

One major advantage to the EZ-Hair Removal System is the finisher. There are many times when the stubble is not long enough to trim, but simply needs a quick little removal. The finisher is perfect for that and can be done daily to help maintain smooth, sexy skin. And don't forget about the hair growth inhibitor that works great to inhibit hair growth in between shaving/manscaping and should ultimately be used in combination with any shaver you choose to use.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. Happy Manscaping - Chris

This is not a typical question posed to most blogs, but not too unusual for ours – and we love them – keep’em coming. The most popular question asked is usually in regards to testicle hair removal/manscaping. Many of the same answers apply to both anus and testicle hair removal. A wonderful and fun way to remove hair from these sensitive areas is by asking a lover or close friend. It can prove to be quite a sensual experience. Most people are not comfortable with that and so we offer the following advice.

There are a few things to keep in mind – hair preparation, hair removal location and the proper tools. Let’s begin with hair preparation. If you apply a powder to your skin prior to trimming/removing hair, anywhere on your body, it helps to lift the hair off your skin. This greatly assists in removing more hair, more closely and helps to keep your tools dryer and cleaner. Another very important element of anal hair preparation is cleanliness. It is crucial to cleanse the area prior to any hair removal. You must make sure your tools are not exposed to any nasty germs. So, please first wash and dry well – now you’re ready.

We are looking for a location that offers a few key components. First, you will need to be able to easily clean up the fallen hairs. The area should also be well lit. A shower, with a tub, or the side of the bed tend to work well because you can put one leg up as to expose the area. You must also be able to incorporate the use of a mirror. If you are limber enough you may not need the use of a mirror in removing testicle hair, but for anal hair I’m pretty sure none of you are limber enough to bend and twist that much. Try and balance a hand held mirror on the side of the tub, chair, stool, side of the bed, or whatever you foot is resting upon. Some of the trimming will be done by touch as well. Be careful after any hair removal procedure not to apply any harsh soaps, lotions, perfumes, etc.

I recommend one specific kit that incorporates all the necessary tools for a painless, easy, smooth and long lasting hair removal and manscaping experience. It comes with the powder I mentioned earlier, and trimmer and finisher which is great for quick smoothing, not to mention some fun and sexy stencils. www.EZ-HairRemoval.com Enjoy and happy trimming.

- Chris

I just received another question: "I just bought the Philips Norelco body groomer. It works great, but i still get the razor burn in my private area. I shaved then had stubel. So I shaved again the next day. Then i got the bumbs."

I am not crazy about the Phillips Norelco. Although it provides a smooth shave, it doesn't come with a seperate shaver that smooths the stubles in-between shaving. And yes, if you shave this sensitive area every day you are more likely to get the bumps and razor burn. As in my last post, I highly recommend Bikini Zone products to help with that razor burn. You apply it after shaving and it really helps to prevent those itchy bumps and razor burn.

This question was recently submitted and I wanted to post my answer in case there were others out there with the same question.

Here is the direct quote from one of my subscribers: "I downloaded your e-book and it was very helpful…i did have some more questions though..can you shave your pubic hair too often?"

Here is my answer: The answer is no - you can't shave your pubic area too often. Obviously, some people have more sensitive skin than others and shaving more often may cause this area to become irritated if you have sensitive skin.

When I do occassionally get irritated skin when I shave my balls or surrounding pubic area, I will use a soothing gel from Bikini Zone. They make it in a gel, a cream and they also make pads. They all work the same to stops bumps, itching, redness, and pain after hair removal. This product is dermatologist tested and safe to use on sensitive skin after genital hair removal.

The Personal Shaver system that I use and recommend so highly is great for men who need to shave often and have sensitive skin. The benefit is that it comes with two shavers - the Trimmer and the Finisher. What's so great about this system is that the Trimmer only has to be used when the pubic hair is a little longer, but the Finisher can be used in-between to keep the area smooth. The Finishing Shaver has an outer foil that is not designed to cut the hair like the Trimmer, but it removes stubble and leaves smooth, silky skin.

I hope this helps.

-Chris

2007 has marked a big change for men in regards to manscaping (men's hair removal) and overall grooming including skin care. A recent study says that men are spending longer in the bathroom than women these days!

Of course there are the extremests who may go all out and spend more than 100 bucks a month on eyebrow trims, tanning and even body waxes, most men, however, fall into the “metro-light” category.

There are more men’s lifestyle magazines today than ever before. Men are now more informed than ever about how to solve their particular skincare problems, about different grooming products and about men's hair removal. Not only in magazines but also online men can find tips and solutions to their skin care problems and unwanted hair issues. The increasing mention of men’s skin care products and men's hair removal trends in men’s magazines and online has contributed greatly to the growing success of men’s skin care market and hair removal market in 2007.

So if by now your still not a metrosexual or metrolight and just buy whatever is on sale on the men’s aisle, maybe this coming year you should give men’s skin care and male grooming (inlcuding manscaping) a real chance.

For bodybuilders removing unwanted hair is as important as building muscle. Your body building efforts will be less visible if your bodyis convered with hair! For any competing bodybuilder, hair removal is a must but it's also growing in popularity among casual bodybuilders.

Laser hair removal and electrolysis both provide permanent hair removal, however, both are very costly and could leave skin scarred if not done properly!

Shaving with a dry electric shaver works great for most areas especially if like this one, the kit includes a finishig shaver to get all areas as smooth as you can and reduce stubble when the hair grows back.

Here are the areas that most men - bodybuilders or not - want to manscape:

Upper Lip, Chin, Mustache and Beard - shaving is best

Back of Neck - shaving is best

Chest - Waxing (OUCH!!!), shaving, depilatories (creams)

Shoulders, Back, Arms, Hands, Tummy - Waxing (OUCH!!!), depilatories, shaving.

Underarms - Shaving is safe in this area. Hair under the arm grows in all directions so a side to side stroke as well as up and down strokes may be necessary to catch all the hairs. To avoid irritation and soarness do not apply deodorants or antiperspirants right after shaving. To avoid the risk of chemical burns on the sensitive skin in this area,no not use depilatories for the underarms.

Pubic Area and Bikini Line - If the hair is long it can be cut down with scissors. The personal shaver is perfect for these sensitive areas for both men and women.

Genitals - Hair growing on the shaft of the penis and on the testicles can be removed by shaving using a dry shaver. For tips on how to best shave this area click here.

Anus and Perineum - The Perineum is the area of skin rich in nerve endings located below the anus. In men it extends to the base of the testicles, in women to the vaginal opening. The anus is a mucous membrane. Depilatories should not be used as they can result in serious damage. Shaving does produce stubble and needs to be done frequently to avoid irritation as the sides chafe and rub together.

Legs, Feet, Toes - Shaving the legs is popular - be sure to use a kit that provides both a trimmer and a finisher for the smoothest results!
